Update and Prayer Request - *UPDATED*

It's been a while since we've posted. The move and settling between homes has consumed most of our time. We will catch up on that, but right now we have an update on David's sister Chrissy and prayers needed for her pregnancy situation.

Chrissy went to the hospital today. She is around the 24/25 week mark into her pregnancy. Her body decided that it was time to birth the twins (they had passed away several weeks ago). This obviously poses a health risk to the third baby. The initial attempts to halt contractions did not work. So, Chrissy has recieved shots to help Briana's lungs develop and shots to hold off the birthing of the twins until after midnight (to give Briana time to get the medicine). The doctor said that Chrissy's body may stabilize ones the twins are birthed, and Briana will be able to stay in longer. However, her body may begin to birth Briana, and they will need to perform a C-section to reduce the trauma to Briana's little body. Though we would love to get to meet our first niece, we pray she is able to stay safe inside for a while longer!

Please pray for Chrissy, Brad and the baby as they go through this time.

** UPDATE **
Briana was delivered tonight (after 8pm). She's just over a pound, and the neo-natal doctor says she appears very healthy. Thank you for continued thoughts and prayers.

Update on Chrissy

Asking for your prayers for David's sister, Chrissy. About three weeks ago, Chrissy went to a weekly Dr. visit and found out that two (the identical twins) of her triplets had passed away. They were about 20 weeks along. The Dr. could not find a reason. The news was understandably very hard to hear!

Thankfully, the third baby seems to be strong and doing well. They have chosen to name her Briana Marie. They will continue to do weekly visits with ultrasounds to closely monitor Briana. And Chrissy will most likely have a C-section due to the complications of delivering with the other babies still present.

Chrissy called yesterday and told David that the next month is a critical time in her pregnancy. The doctor is watching very closely for signs of infection (due to the second sac). If there is any sign of infection, they will take her in for a C-section immediately. We are praying there will be no infection, especially as her chances of reaching full-term increase after the month.

Information Gathering Week

This is a week of gathering information about possible changes in our lives.

Today, David is talking to a counselor at a college to determine if he should again change schools. He has been dilligently working toward his degree, but has recently hit some snags with administration. There has been a serious lack of communication on their part, causing a stand-still. Please pray that David would make a wise, informed decision rather than one based only on emotion.

If you have been praying for our "BIG" decision, Wednesday is the day we will hopefully have the information we need to evaluate the options. As with any change, our greatest concern is for Josiah and Elizabeth's adjustment. I believe they would do well. But any change involves some loss, and Josiah has already had so much loss in his life. We have a few other concerns, but we absolutely believe that if this is God's direction, He can make everything work our just as it should!

Today...

was a better day! Tonight was better, too. I made a determined effort to be more patient with him as he fell asleep. And it doesn't hurt that we were shopping and got home later than normal, so bedtime was later. He didn't have as much energy to fight to stay awake. :-)

P.S. Will you please pray for us as we are considering a possibly pretty big change for our family? Right now it seems right, but we want to be following God's plan and not our own. I promise I'll share more later.

Please Pray!

Now is probably not the best time to write this, but please bear with me, as my emotions are just all over the place. But, I am asking you dear friends and family to pray with us!

Just as we were coming home from Ethiopia, several families with our agency received referrals for precious little boys. They were more than overjoyed! They prepared to bring new members of their family home. Unfortunately these babies have been very ill, and have been in and out of the hospital.

Around two weeks ago, one of these angels went to be with his Heavenly Father. That was heart breaking for the family, as well as our adoption community. Praise God, the family trusts God with their decisions, and they have received a referral for another son. It is a joyous and painful time for them.

Now we have learned that two boys were again in the hospital, and that another sweet baby went to his Eternal Home.

Please pray for these families who have lost their sons. Even without meeting them and holding them, the boys are their sons in their hearts! Both families also have young children at home. Pray that God would comfort them and hold them as they grieve. Pray that they would know God's will and follow it.

Please also pray for the boys still in the hospital and the transition home. Pray for their healing and strength. Pray for the families waiting for them. This is so very scary...especially being on the other side of the world!

Pray for the caretakers and staff who are there with the children. They do have such hearts for these precious little ones!

What do you do...

...when you are so excited and anxious about all the amazing things happening in adoption all around you that you can think of nothing else? Pray, pray, pray...and blog. (I'm not sure how Biblical the second part is, but sometimes a girl just has to talk to "someone", and all of the other someones in my house are sleeping right now :-))

PRAISE GOD!!!! Our dear friends have bought their plane tickets to Guatemala and will be holding their precious son on MONDAY!!!! Oh, I am so excited for them!!! Please pray for their safe travels and for their children at home. Pray for this dear little boy whose world is about to turn upside down....in an incredible way...but still very scary for a little guy. Also, pray that no person, paperwork, or anything else will stand in the way of them meeting and enjoying this time they have to get to know their son.

On the other side of the WORLD, in a matter of hours, the cases of three families will go before the judge in Ethiopia. Please pray for continued peace for these families as they wait to hear if the court approves their adoptions. Pray for God's perfect timing in bringing these children home to their forever families.

It is just so amazing to imagine what God has in store for His beautiful children and their families!

Mom Update

Thanks for your prayers! My mom's surgery went well--at least when they finally got to it :-) She said she's just had a little bit of pain, which is totally understandable. Not only did she have the surgery, but before that she had an EKG and after she had a Dr. appointment (kind of unrelated to the surgery). Unfortunately, the Dr. said things have actually gotten worse since her last visit. So there will probably more surgeries in her future. After all of that, they drove home three hours. Then she was wondering why she was so tired today! Please pray that my mom will take the time to get the rest she needs. She's definitely not one to sit around! My dad had to "order" her not to iron clothes today or go up and down the stairs. He even asked people to call to keep her busy and make sure she was following directions. :-)

One more for the night.

Would you please keep my mom in prayer Monday? She is having surgery in the morning. She has already had several, and hopefully has only one more to go for a while. Thankfully, it's not TOO invasive, and she should be home tomorrow night.

A Letter from God

“Dear Child,

I look upon your heart and see your sadness. I search your soul and know its despair. You turn to Me but cannot find the words to pray. You look to Me but cannot find the song to sing. Do not worry, child of Mine. I know all that is within you, and I understand. For now, your silence will be a prayer to Me, and your tears, an offering. I do not wish for you to act a part. I do not require a spiritual charade. But bring Me, instead, your real feelings, your brokenness, yourself. That is what I wait for. And I will meet you in the silence. There I will stay with you and heal your heart. And later, when the music has returned to your life, you will look back in love and recall this silent song We sang together.

Be quiet and know Me,

God”

To you dear friends who are in this place now, and to those who have been there before...you are in our thoughts and prayers!

Update

Just wanted to give you an update about what has been going on with us. Sorry...it's kind of long...lots of prayer requests :-)

It is definite that we will not be able to bring Jose home. Both a praise and a prayer request is that we have been told he will go to live with his birthmother. How wonderful that he will be able to know her and she him! However, after not having him for 19 months, it will be quite an adjustment for both of them. And the reasons she relinquished him at his birth have not changed. Please be in prayer
for them and for the foster mother who has been caring for him all along.

This has been a very painful time for us. We know that Jose was not legally ours, and that we have never physically seen him. However, in our hearts and minds, he was already part of our family. We know that God brought him into our lives for a reason. It has been such a blessing to have friends around us who understand. Some have been through similar situations, but all have been very loving and supportive. We have told Elizabeth, and at times she seems to understand that he will not be coming home, but at other times she still speaks about him being her brother. We let her know that we can pray for him and love him even though he won't be here with us.

A huge praise! A law was passed in Guatemala that allows in-process adoptions to continue; it's not everything we hoped for, but it is a step. There are still MANY details that need to be figured out. Also, there is no provision for the children who are not in process for being adopted. Continue to pray for all the children who are being adopted internationally and who will remain in Guatemala.

*Please pray especially for some friends of ours who are trying to bring their little boy home! They are SO close to having him home, but there are some very large obstacles in their path. Thankfully, God is bigger than anything that can be placed or thrown in the way.*

With much prayer and thought, we are begining the adoption process in another country. Though the law passed in Guatemala, now is not the time to begin with a new referral for a child there. Perhaps God will lead us back in the future. Right now we are trusting and trying to take one step at a time. We have been approved within our agency to enter their program for adoptions in Ethiopia. It means we will have to do a lot of redundant paperwork since we won't be able to use many
of the items we needed for Guatemala. But that means we should already know what we're doing, right? ;-)

Thank you all for you love and support! It means the world to us!

~Blessings~

Prayer Request

All,

We learned this evening that Joshua will not be coming home. Due to paperwork descrepencies with his birth family, the adoption process for Joshua will not be able to continue foward. Please pray for us as a whirlwind of information is coming in and our emotions bounce around.

With Love,
David, Demarie, and Elizabeth

Please Please Pray!

For a long time, there has been rumor that the government of Guatemala was going to cease adoptions with the U.S. However, a few days ago the U.S. Department of State published a document saying that is exactly what is going to happen. Apparently, certain government
officials in Guatemala have made known that currently all adoptions with the U.S. are to cease by January 1, 2008. The way things are going right now, there is not even a chance to begin adoptions again possibly until April of 2008.

The U.S. DOS and some adoption organizations are trying to convince Guatemala to include "Grandfather clauses" in the legislation they are passing. This would allow families already in the adoption process in Guatemala to continue. There is also a chance that the Jan. 1 date could be pushed back.

I'm not sure that either of these changes will help us, as we have not begun any of the official processes in Guatemala yet. However, there are hundreds of families in the adoption process right now who may not be able to bring their children home. There are thousands of children
in Guatemala who will not have the chance to be part of a family, and there are no social services to be able to provide for them.

PLEASE PRAY
1. For the families and children who are in this process...they are going through tremendous stress and heartache right now. (We have several friends who are much further along in the process and have already been waiting so long to bring their little ones home.)

2. That the leaders in both countries will focus on the children who are involved, rather than their pocketbooks or reputations.

3. God will use one of these possible changes or one of His own miraculous design to allow these children to join the forever families who are waiting for them.

4. God will make it abundantly clear to us what His path is for us. Right now, until we are forced to change, we are planning to move ahead as much as possible.
