The other day after getting off the phone with my mom Josiah made the claim, "I'm Grandma's boy."
I smiled, but responded, "You're not my boy?"
"Oh yes! And Daddy's boy, and Elizabeth's boy, and Isaac's boy, and Diego's boy. We're family!"
This simple phrase has been coming out of his mouth several times most days. He's also finally starting to understand a little bit about his story and how he joined our family. Tonight, as he was settling into bed, we talked about it again. We talked about how he was born in Ethiopia, how he has two families, and how we came to Ethiopia to meet him. At one point, he stated, "Mommy, you not lost. I stay with you. We're family."
He brought me to tears...for so many reasons. I am so thankful to have this child in our family. I rejoice that he loves us as his family and knows he is here to stay. I'm also torn up by the losses he has. I wish I knew what memories he holds. I love that there is no way to tell our story without talking about our Heavenly Father.
Yes, my sweet boy. We're Family.

Diego the Con Artist
Just had to share a laugh :-)
After Diego had been out in the yard for a while, David let him back in the house. He ran around for a few minutes and then Diego walked over to his bed. He stopped and stared at the wall behind it. (Maybe he was getting in character.) He began to take one step forward, didn't even get his paw on the bed, and made a quick high-pitched yelp. Then he quickly limped over to the couch and started to climb up. We told him no, as he is not allowed on the couch. He gave a disgusted look and walked away completely normally.
